Cooking or Clothing? How 'bout Both!

Hello again, dear readers. My goodness, had I known you were so interested in cooking (or was it that you were housebound and bored?) I would have opened a restaurant instead of a clothing store! Just kidding. But you did respond more to my last post about pinto beans than all other posts I've published combined! So if you will indulge me one more time, I am eager to provide an answer for the next time someone in your household asks the dreaded "What's for dinner?" question! Just come up with a better name for it than I could: pork shoulder. There must be a more elegant name for it. Picnic ham? No, that doesn't do it either. Let's see, the New York Times magazine article that gave me the inspiration called it bo ssam. Still, the name doesn't really matter, because truly when you taste it, you'll think you died and went to heaven. The restaurant in the Times article charges $200 for a piece of meat like this. But you can make it at home for about $20.

Here's how. Buy a pork shoulder (really, that's what QFC calls it) with a bone in it. Around seven pounds should do it. Measure out a generous half cup white sugar and mix it with a half cup of salt. Put the raw meat on a large piece of plastic wrap, and put that on a baking tray. Sprinkle the meat with the salt and sugar mixture. Wrap it all up in the plastic, and put it in the fridge on the tray overnight. Next day, turn the oven on to 300 degrees, unwrap the meat, and bake it, for around four hours, or until it develops a yummy-looking crust. Then, enjoy! I served it with more brown rice and the beans that I made last week. The Times suggests wrapping lettuce leafs around chunks of it and dipping it in hot sauce. That sounds good, too. (I recommend Frank's if you you don't want to make your own.) No matter what you eat it with, preparing this entree is a lot less work and tastes exponentially better than any fancy dish you could conjure up. Your family will be in awe of your cooking talent, too!

As for clothing, the snowbanks have melted, and the UPS guy finally showed up. Here's what he brought us: beautiful white cotton blouses and a jacket to add to the spring collection we have going at Renee's from brand name Gretty Zueger! Put them with jeans, or wear them with shorts this summer. And even though it's still chilly outside, they won't last long, because they are that cute!

Pinto Beans (Or "How I Spilled the Beans.")

This blog doesn't always have to be about clothing. Does it? I hope not, because it's a snow day here in the Seattle area, and nothing around here is moving. No new clothing has arrived. I don't think the UPS man is like the mailman ("Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail shall keep the postmen from their appointed rounds.") who already came. I haven't seen the UPS guy or his truck for a few days. Maybe they are all stuck in the snowbanks.

All this snow has me interested in staying home! And when I am home, I like to cook. I made some killer pinto beans last night. Now I know pinto beans aren't very exciting, but these turned out so well! I started the day before at the co-op. I spilled the beans all over the floor by accidentally opening the spout wider when I tried to close it. Uh oh. I had to confess to the cashier that I made a mess back there. That was after I tried to laugh it off to the lady standing behind me in the bulk area who was, by this time, looking at me out of the corner of her eyes to see if I was insane. "Oops, he he," I muttered under my breath, chagrined, when I really wanted to scream "Aieeeeeeee!"

Anyway, that night I put a cup of them (dry) into a pan, covered them with water, and brought it to a boil. Then I put the lid on the pan and turned off the heat. The next morning (yesterday) I drained and rinsed the beans. Covered them with water again. Chopped up an onion and put that in. Found some old dried out garlic cloves, peeled those and threw them in. Put on the heat at a slow bubble. The beans started cooking. Soon they began smelling sooooo good. Next thing I knew, there was a lovely gravy going. When I tasted a bean, maybe about 1.5 hours later, it was tender. I added some salt, chili powder, a bit of cumin, and some tomato sauce to the pan and stirred. That's when I knew this dish was gonna be good! Tossed in some chopped red pepper and green onion for good measure (and good photo).

I sprayed nonstick oil into a baking dish and dumped it all in. Let it sit on top of the stove all day, heat and lid off, while I was at work. When I got home, I shredded some really good white Irish cheddar cheese and sprinkled it on top of the beans. Shoved the whole thing into the oven, lid off, at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. In the meantime poured some brown rice and water in the rice cooker. Bill seasoned and grilled chicken breasts. I cut up kale and cooked it. Can I just say, I could have eaten the WHOLE casserole of crusty bean bake over the rice by myself. It tasted so good on a snowy night. Bill was NOT as excited as I was about the bean dish, and he was even more adamant about not putting tongue to kale even just to taste it. Fine by me, I got to eat all of the kale myself. Still, I got a lot of satisfaction out of some simple pinto beans. Yummmmmmmmm.

And this, dear readers, sums up my work at Renee's (and my whole life!): take something simple and innocuous such as pinto beans. They are dry, plain, and basically inedible to begin with. Add some clear cool water and heat. Season with love. Voila! You end up with something delicious, nutritious, and good for you. At Renee's take something seemingly plain and "normal," add quality with fine fabrics and top-notch construction, and get something that gives you pleasure every time you wear it. Just. Like. That.

This morning I made granola. Mmmmm. And in the evenings, cocoa--REAL cocoa-- has been our light but yummy-tasting "dessert!"

What to Give Your Sisters.

Hello again! How is your holiday season shaping up? My hope for you is that you are at peace. You are not overextending yourself. Your expectations are within limits. You are getting enough sleep, exercising, and eating well.

Earlier this month I had a little extra time and energy to bake some holiday treats. Baking used to be a ritual when I was growing up on the farm. Not just at holiday times either. But taking care of a retail business kind of squashed some of the domestic desires. So I decided to give myself permission, leave the clean laundry (overflowing the baskets and getting more wrinkled by the day), and enjoy being in the kitchen last weekend.

Hopefully you can stop by Renee's this Saturday, Dec. 10 when three beautiful, talented, and professional image consultants will be here to give us tips on how to dress to flatter our figures. Their presentation begins at 11 am. We still have a few seats left; please RSVP to reneesclothing@yahoo.com. Refreshments will include slices of pumpkin cream cheese roll and a "knock-off" version of Starbucks delicious Cranberry Bliss bars. How is your holiday shopping going? I hope you are finding something for everyone on your list. I put myself in your shoes as I look around the store. If I were to choose anything at Renee's, what would I give my sisters? The jammies (above top and below) from PJ Salvage are at the top of my list. They say "I love you! Enjoy this softness! Treat yourself!" They are comfy and feel-good. My sisters are too frugal to purchase these for themselves. In the wide realm of the retail world Renee's is not a big store. Marlene and I are the only "employees." We don't sell electronic devices. We don't buy "off-price" merchandise to mark up and then offer you a "sale." We don't do much advertising. I'm happy if I have time and energy to publish an email once a month!

We DO offer quality, value and a pleasant shopping experience with us, people you know. And we know you, too! At Renee's you will find items I personally chose with you in mind: apparel, jewelry, accessories I think you will enjoy and appreciate for years to come.

Our customers (you) are like family. When your loved ones come in and choose a gift for you, we can make an educated guess about your preferences, colors and sizes. (We also have wish lists you can fill out to help us.) Both the giver and receiver benefit, and Renee's does, too. This fortuitous exchange is heartening, as it ensures Renee's future existence, even in a time when big box stores and Chinese-made products seem to be winning.

In that regard, I want to tell you about Lori, a friend of a friend who created some mittens we just received. Lori makes felted wool mittens from old sweaters, and lines them with soft fleece. When I saw her photos I immediately recognized that THIS is what you, my friends and customers, would appreciate. I asked her to send seven pairs.

Yesterday I tore open the box when it arrived. The mittens were even better in person than they looked in the photos. They may not be the least expensive mittens in town, but I can guarantee you will notice quality, recognize value, and immediately think "love and care" when you try them on.

I don't know Lori, the woman who made the mittens, personally, but I do remember when her first husband tragically passed away about fifteen years ago in a farming accident. Although this unfortunate calamity doesn't affect you much, rest assured that these mittens were made by a real person, someone like you who has experienced life's joys and sorrows. Since that heartbreaking time Lori has remarried and is taking care of the ones she loves. She is working at her craft, using her time and talents to the best of her ability, and helping to support her family, just like all of us.

Lori's story brings home what is important in life, especially during this holiday season: people. I hope anyone who darkens our door this season will recognize that everything at Renee's is hand picked with love and care, and chosen with real people in mind!

Thank you for your support. I know I will see many of you this holiday season, and I am grateful. I love my work, I love my customers (you!), and I look forward to offering you and your loved ones special items that become "favorites" for many years to come!

New York Buying Trip for Spring 2012

Hello, dear readers!

I returned from my twice-a-year buying trip to New York City late last night full of excitement, renewed energy, and enthusiasm.

I am thrilled about finding a beautiful spring collection of items for you that I think you'll just love! Some of the orders will arrive soon, but the majority will come in after Christmas.

Specifically, you'll find bright colors, including beautiful pink, green, and floral printed handbags from Hobo, and more innovative bags from Liebeskind. Wooden Ships: Cozy Fall Sweaters

We are excited about our fall collection at Renee's! One of the eye-catching new lines we've brought in for the season is Wooden Ships sweaters and accessories.

Getting Started. Colombian-born designer Paola Buendia and her husband, Mark Donovan, founded wooden ships in 1992. The couple met as undergraduates at Harvard. Spurred by a four-month trip to Bali, they founded the company two years after graduation.
Comfort Food. Paola: There is something so comforting about knits. For me, looking good is totally connected to feeling comfortable. Plus knits have a slouchiness that makes them immediately casual, and that is very much my style. A happy spring day to all! First, I'll get the business out of the way... Tackle Your Closet; Win New Hangers!

Dear Readers,
Does your spring-cleaning routine include your clothing closet? Regular culling not only helps me find things faster, but a well-organized space gives me peace of mind. A clean, clutter-free closet will allow you to appreciate the time and money investments you’ve made in your wardrobe.

Simplify. If you decide to tackle your closet, I recommend going through your belongings twice. On the first go-round, get rid of anything that 1. Is worn out, 2. You no longer like, 3. Is out of style, or 4. You haven’t worn in the past two years. As you declutter your closet, evaluate. Let go of clothes that are too small and give up items you don’t intend to wear. Decide if these “clearance” items will be given away or tossed, depending on how well used the garment is. Labeled boxes can be useful during this step.

On the second time through, try on the remaining clothing. Create a third box for items that need alterations. At this point another person’s opinion could be helpful. Make your closet cleaning activity more fun by mixing, matching and styling outfits while playing your favorite music! Not only do you have a clean closet but a pocketful of outfit ideas that can save you time and money.

Reorganize. Now you can rearrange the remaining items. I like to use matching hangers. Wooden hangers, although beautiful, are expensive and take up lots of room. Velvet flocked hangers prevent slippage. Flocked and plastic tube hangers are narrow and conserve space. Wire hangers are flimsy, ugly and slippery. They can get tangled, and they don’t support the clothing. I recommend recycling these.

I use plastic hangers with metal swivel tops. Not only are they economical, but also they allow all of my clothing to hang in the same direction no matter how I place it on the hanger. To prevent slippery or wide-neck tops from falling off I apply adhesive foam.

I suggest you arrange like clothing categories together. Examples include knit tops, blouses, sweaters, jeans, pants, and jackets. Sort tops by sleeve length. For example, group together strappy tanks, sleeveless tops, cap sleeves, three quarter sleeve and long sleeves. You won’t have to rummage as much to find the tops you want.

I fold my heavy sweaters (stored on shelves) and workout apparel. Exercise apparel is again separated by sleeve length and stored in a drawer.

These organization steps will help you see your closet contents and determine what can be worn together. Imagine opening your closet doors and smiling with a sense of satisfaction rather than sighing in exasperation. When you pare down your possessions, your closet will work for you.

Do You ZuZu?

Dear Readers,

I have been shopping for fall clothing. I know, I know. You are more than ready for spring and warm, sunny weather. But I just can't resist sharing about a really cool brand called Baabaazuzu that will be at Renee's this fall if all goes as planned.

My interest was piqued by an intriguing photo I saw. I dared to hope that I'd find unique and special apparel, and happily, Baabaazuzu met my expectations. I loved the quality I saw in the sample garments.

I met the owners, husband and wife Kevin and Sue Burns, who were representing their own line. It doesn't get more real than that! They seemed like down to earth people.

They live and work near Traverse City, Michigan where my family vacations every year. They mentioned that I could visit them this summer when I'm there. Then they offered to let me choose my own pieces for you, and I was hooked.

Here's some information right off their website (The photos I've used came from their blog.):

"For Sue Burns, Baabaazuzu founder and lead designer, inspiration came one winter day in the back of her clothes dryer. Her husband had shrunk some of Sue’s favorite wool sweaters. And out of the tragedy of her too-small-to-wear, once-adored sweaters arose a multi-million dollar company."

"Sue, a gifted graphic designer, cut up the shrunken remains of her favorite sweaters, pieced the fragments together and made jackets with matching hats for her two young daughters."

"The process behind Baabaazuzu’s creations is an age-old process. Felting. Simply put, it’s taking wool sweaters or garments – and in Baabaazuzu’s case, it’s taking items that are no longer wanted and could not sell at second-hand stores and are literally a step away from being thrown into landfills – and washing them in very hot water so as to shrink into a very dense, very strong wool “fabric.” Sue then takes the felted material, cuts them up and, with her eye-of-an-artist, purposefully pieces them back together into wearable works of art – hats, mittens, jackets, scarves, etc."

I have been buried in "market" paperwork for the past few days. What do I base my buying decisions on, you may ask? I want to feel “moved” when I choose what to bring to the store for you.

I am talking about feeling a little tingle when I see apparel I know you will love. My face starts to flush. I start smiling or even laughing. My heart beats a little faster. There is something tugging at me. Paying attention to my gut instinct and my judicious attitude pays off for us both.

My job is to determine when style, fabric, fit, color and price fall in line to give us the most value and satisfaction we can get out of our clothing purchases. Sometimes designers change styles, the fabric isn’t impressive, or the item does not warrant the price tag. For whatever reason, I need to say no to some things when they just aren’t “right.”

Renee’s is about honoring your personal style more than what is “hot” or trendy. Remembering that helps me determine what to choose from the thousands of styles offered. I am constantly putting together a puzzle in my head.

Consider Annette Gortz, my favorite brand. I did not choose to bring any to Renee's last fall. I couldn’t get beyond seeing black and more black, which you could find anywhere.

Gortz for this spring, on the other hand, has been a whole different story. I was moved! I placed the orders, the clothing arrived, and you have responded!

When it comes to apparel, count on Renee's to do the groundwork for you. Sometimes you can't get what you want, but you get what you need: value and satisfaction.

A customer once said to me, “If you chose not to bring it in, I trust your judgment. I know you choose the best.” To me, that is the ultimate compliment!

Part of the first shipment of the spring 2011 Annette Gortz collection arrived at Renee's yesterday. It is beautiful. I can hardly wait for you to see it!!!

I had so much fun helping Diane and Carla Wallat when they came in. I couldn't believe it when Diane told me she and Carla were going to the Academy Awards show and would be meeting the winners.

They report what the winners say in the interview room after they receive their award for the print media.

I was so excited that I was going to dress ladies who were going to the Oscars that I forgot to take photos while they were in the store. Diane assured me she would post photos when she returned.

Diane is an official court reporter for the Snohomish County Superior Court and she lives in Snohomish. She is originally from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Carla lives and works in Federal Way.

I thought that was a great idea! And I'd like to try it out! With you!

Back from the Big Apple, Fashion Week in New York

I was inspired while shopping for you in New York City this week! I came home feeling energized and excited more than ever about the clothing, shoes, jewelry and accessories finds. I can hardly wait until you can see them, too!

It’s a given that Renee's provides classic, quality apparel. On the other hand I like to introduce you to new and innovative items that you haven’t seen anywhere else. After all, a boutique is all about unexpected finds and beautiful surprises in a collection of clothing you love to wear.

So what were some of the highlights? Jewelry artist Amy Leiner, whose original designs are earthy yet colorful, describes her jewelry as "a unique blend of color, balance, texture and style." Her pieces will top off an understated outfit perfectly. In recent years, Amy was invited to sponsor such events as the Academy Awards, the Golden Globe Awards, and the Emmy Awards.

I couldn’t pass up the cool shoes and boots from Donald Pliner and Aquatalia (new!).
Ian Mosh’s collection from the Basque Country in Spain was also spectacular.

Of course Annette Gortz, the German designer is always a delight. Her ever beautiful and avant-garde clothing is the best.

I found a new German handbag line called Liebeskind, which I loved! I also ordered special pieces from Louben, Sympli, Vanilia, Planet and Fabrizio Gianni.

It was my pleasure to search through thousands of lines for the perfect outfit, shoes and accessories for you in New York. I just know you are going to love it, too! What Would We Do Without Cotton?

I love cotton. It's a natural fiber. It's soft. It breathes. I can wash and dry it. It gets softer with every wash and wear…

I am worried about cotton. I worry because cotton prices have risen to a 140-year high and are rising still. I think I've taken my favorite fabric for granted!

Cotton is a seemingly innocuous fabric. It is my every-day, reliable, old standby. It has been readily available and reasonably priced. Although cotton is not usually thought of as a luxury fabric, I myself think of it as a luxury fabric. But I wouldn't tell my vendors or reps that. Then they could justify the rising prices…

Why are cotton prices rising? Some of the reasons, according to reports: weather-related production problems, rising costs, restrictions on exports from India, and rising worldwide demand for cotton.

There are some options. We can hedge against rising prices -- at least for now -- by shopping the packed sale racks for replacements at Renee's! What to buy now? I would suggest jeans, dress shirts, socks and underwear, and organic cotton items.

If you want to future-proof your clothing budget, browse your wardrobe for pieces that are likely to need replacing in upcoming months. You might even stock up on a favorite piece. End of season sale prices are excellent, and the styles aren't going to change that much over the next year.

Viable Options to American-Made Clothing

Yesterday I talked about the priority I place on looking for American made products when I shop for you. The flip side of this coin is finding items that are responsibly made abroad.

I trust the owners of Nomadic Traders, one of the staple lines you see at Renee's, to conscientiously make those choices for me. Len and Anna Schemin started Nomadic over 30 years ago in Berkeley, California. They still own and operate the business. This longevity is practically unheard of in today's apparel business.

Len and Anna "are very wonderful human beings in this planet. They are fair, family oriented, and supportive," said Giselle Perez, marketing director for Nomadic Traders. Giselle has worked for the company for 24 years and counting.

Giselle and I discussed the some challenges to American-produced apparel. "We are between a rock and a hard place," Giselle explains. Apparently most of the cotton grown in the US gets exported to China. On top of that there are not many companies left in the states who manufacture sweaters and textiles. Most of the skills and factories have moved overseas, and some "production almost has to be abroad."

The owners appreciate my American-made quest, and many of the knits are produced stateside. However when US production is not practical, they get the job done overseas to create a well-rounded collection.

From my perspective, Nomadic Traders is a company whose integrity I want to support. The employees who answer the phones are friendly and compassionate; the shipping is reliable, accurate and speedy; the merchandise is reasonably priced, and the owners uphold and promote the art and culture they've experienced in their many journeys.

They also give back to others. "We have always believed in giving back, and have donated to various charities for many years," they write. You can see a list of the charities they support on their website.

Best of all, you, the customers, have embraced Nomadic!

While I prefer to purchase items made in America for you, there are some other viable options. Buying from Nomadic Traders is one of them. Do you know of others?

What's Important to You

Hello, there!

Today I will spend time in Seattle combing through lots of "stuff" to choose what else, dear readers, you might like me to add to the collection here at Renee's. You may know I do not consider myself a shopper. I was raised in a frugal, minimalist home. How ironic that I now shop for a living! I do this for you, so you don't have to!

Many of you have told me you rely on my decisions. While that is flattering, I also think of it as a huge responsibility, one I am still happy to grab hold of. Thank you for giving me this opportunity.

While I am culling through what I can only picture as a huge haystack for just the right items, I often ask the sellers where the merchandise is manufactured. I try to support companies whose manufacturing is done in the U.S., and I am also fond of Canadian-made lines. I like to give my business to small, women-owned manufacturers when possible.

Recently I wrote a letter to the editor of the Everett Herald about American-made merchandise, and they saw fit to publish it. While not everything I bring to Renee's is made in America, the majority is. I will continue my search.

New Arrivals for Spring at Renee's

What's that you say? You are tired of the long gray days of winter? You need a sign of spring to get you through this month?

Well, besides noticing the crocuses peaking out of the ground, you can check out the new arrivals at Renee's to rest assured that spring is just around the corner.

Last week we received bling full length and cute capri jeans from a Seattle-based company called Zenim.

Nic + Zoe showed up with my favorite feminine sweater for spring, which I call "pink fluff."

They also produced beautiful sweaters and coats in rich coral colors, and light-weight pants for spring.

Other bright colors have been arriving daily: kiwi greens, sky blues, daffodil yellows, cotton candy pinks, bright turquoises, and more.

Last week on my buying trip for Renee's I spied cute, inexpensive jewelry and lightweight colorful spring scarves. Fun and inspirational, these items are sure to get you through the rest of our winter.

While at market I also ordered: jeans from Silver, Zenim and Dish; cotton sweaters from Mermaid; knit tops from Prairie Cotton and Cut Loose; a new, wide selection of Hobo handbags; and bold print dresses from Elana Kattan.

NO MORE DIETS!

How are your New Year's resolutions coming along just about now? I hope you aren't feeling like a failure because you couldn't keep your enthusiasm up for your resolutions...

New Year's resolutions are so often about negative body image and not being good enough just the way we are. Maybe instead of making New Year's resolutions, we could start a New Year's REVOLUTION. We could work on feeling good in our own skin. We could love and accept our bodies, and feel liberation from a diet industry that plagues us. We could focus on normal, intuitive eating, enjoyable and life-long physical activity, and healthy sleep patterns and stress management.

Let's invest time and money in ourselves rather than in the diet industry. Imagine decreasing self-criticism and body judgment, and living now, not in the past or future. We could start with something as simple as finding and wearing something we feel good in now, right where we are.

As a clothing store owner, I've seen many of us waiting to feel good in clothing until we are "thin enough." That time rarely gets here, even with the best of intentions and resolutions... I've also struggled with being "good enough" and feeling worthy myself. I know from experience that when I feel good, I look good. And when I look good, I feel better, too!

Forget resolutions. Instead start a REVOLUTION! Live your life as if you were at your desired weight, including wearing beautiful, comfortable clothing in your present size. When we can accept ourselves just as we are, we have nothing to lose and everything to gain!

Sometimes we just need a little help from a friend. My friend Yvonne unexpectedly stopped by Renee's today, just when I needed her most. As usual, she came bearing items for show and tell. She attends fun sales and likes to find unique items, and then she inspires me with her stories and goodies.

Today she told me about an event called Ruffles and Rust that she attended in Monroe recently. She found scarves there made of recycled, soft sweaters, and she brought them in to show me. They were beautiful. I will see if I can contact the artist and bring some into the store for you.

Then she told me about a photo she found on a blog she regularly reads. The author went to Paris in September, and she took photos of clothing displayed in store windows. The lastest big thing is layering. And I mean layer upon layer, from leggings under a skirt to scarves upon scarves. As we talked, I became so inspired I said, "Let's do that in Renee's windows!" She worked her magic, and in no time, the windows were sporting new displays of our most recent arrivals.

I just wanted to thank both of you for all the compliments I got at the APA conference. One of my best friends once said that I always wore the same thing to APA. So, the last 2 years, I’ve tried to “be better.”

On the first day of this year’s conference, I wore the cute blue/plaid sundress with the white sweater that I bought a month or so ago. My friend loved it and asked where I got it. I explained Renee's and how Margaret took me there a year or so ago.

The next day, I wore a black top and black/white skirt that I bought at your store on my first visit. Both top and skirt are “flowy.” The reversible skirt is “silky” and the black top has “J-Lo” (or Cher) sleeves. Again, she loved it.

My favorite thing to do at Renee's is to help people, so when three women made fitting appointments with us last week, I was excited. Then this week a gentleman called asking us to set aside several outfits with his wife in mind for a birthday gift. “I’ll be in within the next five minutes to take a look.” Within ten minutes, he made his choice, we wrapped it, and he was on his way.

Times like these are our specialty! They validate our knowledge about the brands we carry, utilize our fit expertise, and affirm the relationships we build with customers.

One of our appointments last week was Marilyn from Mukilteo. About two weeks ago she emailed from her vacation home asking if I would put together a wardrobe for her golf trip to Scotland and Ireland in August. She said she would be back in town next week, and "I want you to dress me. I can only take one suitcase and my golf bag. Please include jewelry, shoes and whatever accessories needed.”

Before Marilyn arrived I scoured the store with her in mind and gathered items I thought she would like. We had fun together over the three and a half hours she spent with us trying things on. Suzy Szymczak left Everett on March 17 for a whopping 51 day grand Mediterranean cruise aboard the ms Prinsendam. Before her departure, she took an inventory of her clothing, and she ordered items to complete her wardrobe for this special trip. She loved the Sympli line because it's comfy, wrinkle free, and perfect for packing and traveling in.

Today, dear reader, is Suzy's 34th day of the cruise, and she is visiting Piraeus (Athens), Greece. Tomorrow she heads to Santorini, Greece, and then after a day at sea, will be in Malta on Day 37. We look forward to seeing her in Renee's clothing when she sends her photos.

Comfy USA has become a favorite brand for many customers this spring. Forgiving, easy to wear, stylish, and easy care, not to mention comfy, new shipments and colors arrive every month. Modal and crinkle are the two Comfy fabrics Renee's carries for this season. Crinkled items shown to the right are the crinkle asymmetric skirt, vest and stripe kiwi cap sleeve top with the kiwi stripe scarf. Also pictured at right is the 3/4 sleeve scoop neck top in kiwi layered under the chocolate-colored tunic tank, paired with black leggings and kiwi scarf. All crinkle items are available at Renee's in violet, chocolate, coco, coco stripe, kiwi, kiwi stripe, slate, white, and black.

Last day in New York; leaving tonight. Found lots of exciting new things for the Renee's at the shows! :) Seeing other buyers, talking to reps, getting new ideas: inspirational. I am enthusiastic about getting back to Renee's, seeing you, customers and friends, and telling you about my finds! Saw trends like skinny pants and leggings, loose tops, and feminine prints. New! Comfy USA (pictured above and left, modeled by Paula Erickson). We think you are going to love Comfy USA, the newest line at Renee's! Rayon and poly easy care (hand wash) crinkle fabric, Comfy USA is flowy with asymmetric European styling. Available in solid and pinstripe earth tones plus black, white and charcoal with scarves to match ($20 each), this line is reasonably priced. Comfy USA is similar to "Sympli" (shown below), but less dressy. The photos do not do justice to how pretty and comfortable this new line is. Come in to see it in person, touch it, feel the fabric, and try it on!

New Spring Sympli has arrived in dusk--a smoky blue, and cargo--a cocoa color. The drape, comfortable fit, and flow of this stretchy poly/rayon/spandex fabric is appealing to everyone! All sizes will love the ease of wearing any of the Sympli items. The Spring group includes a beautiful asymmetric dress and jacket, perfect for spring or summer wedding attendance or any other semi-dressy affair. Sympli is based in Vancouver, B.C., two hours north of Everett. Teresa Wharton is modeling the cargo color.

Nomadic Traders (pictured left and below). One group consists of cheery bright blue solid and print skirts and tops to coordinate. The other group consists of knee-length skirts in two colors: red and white, or black and white, with spring sweaters and blouses and tops to match. Lots more to come from this popular line. Nomadic Traders is based in Berkley, California.
